Effects of a Multi-Cultural Marital Advocacy Program based on Empowerment Model on Self-Esteem, Self-Efficacy, Coping Way and Family Stress in Multi-Cultural Couples

Abstract

|
Objectives: To determine the effects of a multi-cultural marital advocacy program based on the empowerment model on self-esteem, self-efficacy, coping way and family stress in multi -cultural couples.
Methods: A nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental design was used. Participants were couples from multi-cultural families consisting of a Vietnamese woman and a Korean man living in rural area of Chollanamdo. The experimental and control groups comprised 13 and 15 couples, respectively. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN program with frequencies, x©÷ test, and independent t-test and Mann-Whitney U test.
Results: After intervention, the experimental group were significant differences in self-esteem (t=2.313, p=.019), self-efficacy (t=2.668, p=.010) and coping way (t=4.154, p=.000) compare than control group. However, family stress was not statistically significant between two groups (t=1.902, p=.062).
Conclusion: These findings suggest that a multi-cultural marital advocacy program based on the empowerment model will be very useful and effective interventions in increasing self-esteem, self-efficacy, and coping way of multi-cultural couple.
